Landscape Chinese Scroll Painting – Silk Wall Art – Cliff Scholar Boat

What meets the eye first in this Chinese landscape scroll painting is scholar, a small boat, waterfall, cliff, and pine, resting on silk in layered washes of ink. For lovers of shanshui silk wall art, the format will feel familiar and the subject fresh. It carries the calm of the studio it was painted in.

Every element carries its own quiet message: a waterfall dropping in a pale thread; a scholar in quiet retreat among the hills. The brushwork — layered ink washes — is matched by rich, harmonious color, applied without ever overwhelming the silk. The traditional scroll mounting keeps the painting lying flat and true on the wall. The painter's layered ink washes shows especially well in scholar, a small boat, and waterfall.

It hangs well beside bookshelves — ink and paper keep good company. Give it to someone building a Chinese art collection — or keep it for your own wall.
